Seashore & Succulent Tablescape Inspiration

It’s no secret that floral designer Christy Husley of Colonial House of Flowers and Camp Makery is one of our favorites. Starting with inspiration from our Driftwood Lanterns and brilliant photography from Jade + Matthew, the rest flawlessly came together. In her own words, Christy lets us into her world of flowers, love, laughter and friendship as she creates one a unique seaside tablescape that won’t soon be forgotten.

I have this incy place in my mind where I tuck away things I want to remember forever. Ones with my favorite friends (like my best friend Lea) and favorite places like the seashore. Savoring every detail of those moments, like that summer we lived at the beach right after graduating college, is the perfect way to spend the day. Did I mention we both married the boys from that summer? Our families still visit that special place together.

My favorite colors for summer are interesting and unusual including a variety of natural yellows, vibrant reds, whites, purples, and deep greens. From buds to blooms to crumpling palms in decay I incorporate all stages of life for a loose, organic, lush, natural and wild look. I recommend asymmetrical design verses geometric styles. If you look at your design and you love it then trust yourself.

What flowers should you use? Whatever makes you smile! I love expressive flowers like peonies, sweet peas, and rich roses alongside local, seasonal varieties like the Gloriosa lilies. I am fond of flowers I’ve grown, or someone I know has grown – like from my grandmother’s garden. The red & yellow Gloriosa Lilies are hers. Nature has the best flowers. Whether foraging yourself or visiting others that do, local growers passionate about growing beautiful flowers are everywhere. Farmer’s markets and independent garden stores are the best resource for local flowers. However, snipping greenery from pretty plants, yard trees, and bushes on your walk home is just perfect. Urban foraging is a great way to add loose, organic movement to your arrangement.
